When I was asked to lead the education segment team at Intel, my hesitation stemmed from not having any credentials. Will I be perceived as a fraud, I thought. Certainly I am a lifelong learner, and a parent of kids in K12 but not being a teacher or knowing the “science” of learning was a concern. To help address this, I decided to apply to an Education doctorate program at NYU Steinhardt. I thought this would help signal to our customers and the education community that I was serious about learning outcomes and pedagogy potential rather than just creating shareholder value. Unfortunately after applying last year I was not accepted to the NYU Steinhardt program. But without any hesitation I had acute resolve to reapply the following year. I did just that and was honored to be accepted this second time around. I cannot express in words how excited and humbled I am to get in to this very selective program. I want to thank my wife for her encouragement and support to do this 2-year online degree; without that, it would have been impossible to take this journey. Thank you Steinhardt for the opportunity and I look forward to making your second decision count.
