This past December our family said goodbye to Mr. Larry D. Alter, the husband of our Mom.

Larry was in many ways the first man-figure in my life who taught me a lot about business, entrepreneurship, family, and the sanctity of marriage.

I can tell probably 100 different stories about Larry but one thing is true among all of them – he was a man of conviction. Any view that he had – even if it was wrong – he held it with strength. While there were times I would disagree with him on a matter about US history or sports I would still admire this aspect about his personality.

Larry – like all of us – may have had a complicated upbringing but his love and adoration of our Mom was unquestionable and unwavering. It ran deep and was instructive to me about a man’s love for a woman. I appreciated that and wanted to experience that myself in my life which I have been fortunate to experience.

I am glad that my family was able to spend some time with Larry in his home before his passing. Our kids were able to see him when he was jovial and curiously intriguing and that maintained even as his health waned.

Thank you Larry for being you.
